About the Cause
Posted by Niños para Cristo Student Center in Guatemala on 04/07/2026
Meet Samuel, a 9-year-old who is often called "lazy" by his teachers because he struggles to read from the chalkboard. In reality, Samuel has uncorrected myopia. He wants to learn, but the words are just a blur. His family lives far from the city and cannot afford the cost of an eye exam, let alone a pair of glasses. This "hidden disability" affects thousands of children in our rural districts, leading to poor grades and low self-esteem. Our cause aims to bring clarity to Samuel’s world. We are organizing a mobile vision clinic that will visit remote schools to provide professional eye screenings. For every child who needs them, we will provide high-quality, durable prescription glasses at no cost. By correcting a child’s vision, we are removing a major barrier to their education. Our goal is to ensure that every student has the "clear sight" needed to engage in class, play safely with friends, and reach their full potential

How the church will sustain the cause
We identified this need through teacher interviews in our outlying rural schools. Many educators noted that a high percentage of their "struggling" students showed classic signs of vision impairment, such as squinting or headaches. However, there are no optometrists within a two-hour radius of these villages. We also spoke with local health workers who noted that while basic vaccinations are common, specialized care like vision or dental is non-existent. We realized that a one-time intervention—providing a pair of glasses—could have a permanent impact on a child's life. We chose this cause because it is highly effective and addresses a problem that is often ignored. It is a practical, life-changing solution that restores a child's ability to interact with the world around them
To be a biblical, creative, renewed church, thriving in impactful and transformative growth, that according to the values of the kingdom of God, empowered in the integral development of children and youth recognized in the community as an actor of development.
