Don Carlos, 85, lives alone, and his children are in another country. His refrigerator is often empty because he lacks the energy or resources to go shopping and cook. Loneliness and malnutrition are a daily struggle. His story is a painful reality for many older adults in our community. Our cause seeks to alleviate this burden by delivering healthy, complete food kits directly to their homes. Each kit will contain non-perishable staples, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables to ensure proper nutrition. In addition to food, our volunteers will take the time to talk with them, providing social support and breaking the cycle of isolation. We will partner with community centers and health services to identify the most vulnerable seniors. We hope this project will not only improve their physical health but also bring them joy, dignity, and the certainty that they are not alone.

How the church will sustain the cause
We decided this was one of the most important needs after speaking with staff at day care centers and social services. They confirmed that malnutrition and isolation are widespread problems among older adults living alone. Many have no one to turn to for help with shopping or meal preparation. We have seen firsthand people like Don Carlos, who find themselves in situations of neglect and vulnerability. The pandemic and the economic crisis have worsened their situation, forcing many to rely on charity to survive. When speaking with the elderly, their greatest desire was not only food, but also someone's company. This cause addresses both needs, physical and emotional, making it one of the most crucial initiatives for our community.
