technology learning center in operation

Date Posted: 04/20/2023

Appreciable donors, we deeply appreciate the support you have provided to make the technological learning center a reality today. We want to tell you that currently 112 level 3 participants are receiving computer classes, for approximately one hour a week. We currently have an instructor who cares for our children. Thank God and his support. Today we have 7 desktop computers and a laptop, all connected to an internet network, we also have 2 printers, which are used when the participants need to print some school tasks. This project is a great advance for our community since our children have within reach the technological tools to be able to develop their skills and access to technology in a responsible manner. We told them that the youth will receive a technological training diploma from a municipal educational institution with whom an alliance was made. May God bless you greatly beloved brothers and sisters.

About the Cause

Posted by Peniel in Guatemala on 06/23/2021

Our church is proud to have created a typing workshop for our students. The typing workshop is something students need to take in order to graduate high school. Lately the demand for this workshop has decreased though and we want to expand the services to provide something that the students do have a high demand for: a technology learning center. Most people in our community do not have access to the internet. Those who do have to pay a high cost per hour to use it. Our church wants to create a Technology Learning Center that will allow children in the neighborhood who don’t have access to internet or technology to research and do their homework. The Technology Learning Center would include computers, a printer and a scanner. This would also become a workshop for youth at the center. The center wouldn’t always have classes though, it would be more like an open access room but if people have technology questions, the instructor could help them when available. The center would serve the whole neighborhood, including 4 zones of the community. We would ask people to pay for half the cost of private internet services to make internet more accessible. The cost from the participants would also allow the learning center to be sustainable. The learning center would be in the space that we currently use as a typing workshop. All 396 children that our church serves would have access to the center throughout the week, other than Sundays. We are asking for funds to cover 6-10 computers, one printer, and one scanner, and for 5 months to complete the project. Access to technology and internet is a huge barrier to education in our community, and our church wants to be part of solving that problem!
