About the Cause
Posted by Niños para Cristo Student Center in Guatemala on 03/31/2026
Meet Mateo, a 16-year-old living in a community with very few job opportunities. He has dropped out of school to help his family, but without a specific skill, he is stuck in low-paying, seasonal labor. Like many youth in our area, Mateo is at risk of falling into a cycle of poverty or joining local gangs simply because he sees no path to a stable career. Our cause seeks to provide that path. We are establishing a Vocational Sewing Center equipped with heavy-duty sewing machines, cutting tables, and high-quality fabrics. Here, experienced tailors will volunteer to teach youth the art of garment making, repair, and entrepreneurship. By the end of the program, students like Mateo will be able to create their own products to sell or gain employment in the local textile industry. We aim to empower these young people with a trade that gives them dignity, income, and a sense of purpose, ensuring they have the tools to stitch together a better future for themselves and their families.

How the church will sustain the cause
We chose this cause after conducting a youth employment survey in our neighborhood. The results were clear: while many teens wanted to work, they lacked the specialized skills required by local businesses. We also spoke with the local tailors' guild, who noted that the traditional craft of tailoring is dying out because young people lack access to expensive equipment like sewing machines.
To be a biblical, creative, renewed church, thriving in impactful and transformative growth, that according to the values of the kingdom of God, empowered in the integral development of children and youth recognized in the community as an actor of development.
